Light valve springs for break-in?
« on: May 20, 2007 - 05:07:29 AM »
Getting close to a completed engine and am considering installing light valve springs just for break-in on the new solid cam,do I need to or just use the ones for the cam?I`l be using the Rotella T and Comp cams oil additive per there tech sheet but figure the lighter springs will help too?

I personally would if i had softer springs laying around. I much rather do all i could to avoid a ate cam issue, so the extra time to swap them would be worth it to me.  :2cents:

I agree , while it is a pain to swap springs on an engine in car I feel it iiis worth doing , changing the cam out is more of a pain & more costly

Since the rebiuld is due to a wiped cam I want to avoid going thru it again!Any springs you would recommend to use-stock 318 type or???

if there are a dual spring I would just use the outer spring , if there are a single spring it should live without a lighter spring , Make sure the cam is well coated in break in lube & use either Mopar Oil conditioner or Gm EOS with the oil when you break it in

torredcuda,
What are your cam specs, spring pressures?  Just asking, because it might not be necessary.

I agree with CP and drag-n..basically, single springs should be fine for break in. Duals loose the inners. I use 340lbs over the nose as my limit. Above that, you should arrange to use a lighter spring, or remove the inner.
