« on: May 19, 2007 - 06:29:27 PM »
My 70 Challenger back up light stays on in any Trans possition, replaced the switch in the trans, but the new one made the starter keep running, put old switch back in, What could be the problem?   Jiminnj

Okay so your reverse lights are always on with the old and the new neutral safety switch, correct?

You replaced the NSS and it instantly started cranking the engine?

You have more than one problem. The only way the starter can stay in the run position is either, your relay is sticking or the ignition switch is bad or both.

My car had the lights stuck on before, I think it was a loose connection on the NSS.  The starter staying on is odd though.

if the Strater realy has constant power for some reason & the NSS stays grounded the starter will not stop , you could have the wrong valve body in the trans for the Nss you installed causing it to stay grounded

Can anyone tell me the Dodge part Number for the NSS on the 727 Trans, for 70 challenger. I just restored the inside panels, Dash, gauges, switches, stainless trim, wiper motor, and the bumber bumber, I'd hate this switch  to stop progress. Thanks for replies.

it will be a 3 prong switch
if the valve body is from an eralier the 68 year it will not work correctly though

Thanks to all that replyed.  I replaced the NSS and found a complete wire harness including the worn out bulk head plug for the switch. The other problem was in the relay, someone wired the ignition into the wrong post so it didn't need the NSS and it started in any gear. ( How ofton do ya try and start a car in drive? ) The car runs great now, If I could only get my headlight bezels back ( 6 months) from a Chrome outfit my restoration would be complete,    Thanks  Jim
