Ceramic coated headers-how long do they last?
« on: June 10, 2007 - 05:25:45 AM »
My headers have been on the car for 9-10 years and are looking pretty rusty.Just wondering how long you guys are getting out of your coated headers.Any place better than another for having them coated again?Mine are Hookers and came coated from them.

TTI says that you should break them in specific heat cycles. I would imagine they know what they're talking about. Basically from what I remember, you can't take'em out of the box and run them hard, you haveto heat them up a little at a time. They do not recommend dyno runs on fresh ceramic coated headers.
I have a guy that is going to build me a set and my powdercoater knows another powdercoater that does Jet Hot coating.
I don't know the process but my guy has two single car garage size ovens and is a top notch coater, I think it takes a heat range that his ovens don't go to. If you buy non-coated headers make sure you send/take them to a company that IS capable of doing a proper Jet Hot coating.

TC , I'm sending mine to JET-HOT, they are also Hooker's that are a least 20 yrs old and the right header is just starting to get bad. So there going out in a couple of weeks. $275 is much cheaper than $550 if you know what I mean. They have 3 locations.....PA. ,AR. & MS. 1-800-432-3379..
