Hey guys,
Haven't been around in a short while - I've been out every afternoon this week rewirin' my 'Cuda!
If I EVER find the guy who "fixed" the wiring when the alternator fielding circuit got fried, I'm gonna "fix" his arse... I THINK that once upon a time, the (factory) electric choke wire dropped, touched the block and grounded the circuit. Fried the crap outta everything. I basically replaced every circuit that runs through the factory harness connector that sat at the back of the block on the passenger side. The connector is gone - every wire runs straight from source to source. If I wanted to get technical and really make a mess I could have ran individual connectors, but I didn't want that hassle.
Anyways, the reason for my post is that in rewiring the distributor circuit, I inadvertently loosened the adjusting screw for the inductive pickup of the variable reluctance sensor beneath the distributor cap. I have no idea how much gap should be between the pickup and the star wheel. I have a star point on the wheel pretty close to the pickup now, so if someone can give me an idea how far these should be apart, I can correct it pretty easily. I'm HOPING there's not a precise thousands-of-an-inch measurement, or else I'm gonna need to run to sears and get a feeler gauge.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Jeff
