I  read the thread on Moparts about this (locked by the time I got to it) AND ,,of course, the typical finger pointing blame game... Honestly I feel It is a great tragedy all the way around.  It WILL effect Nearly all events from here on out, This WAS being done for a car-related CHARITABLE contribution. My hat goes off to the promoters, and those Involved.

As far as responsibility, accountability,,, EVERYBODY WAS THERE OF THEIR OWN FREE WILL!!! This event is FAR from new.. All that attended knew what they were attending.

Sad part is NOBODY ever thought of an ACCIDENT.

If I were a Judge that is going to oversee the multitude of lawsuits stemming from this event, I would rule "NO FAULT".....EVERYBODY WAS TO BLAME.

p.s.  The driver, his team, the event planners will live a lifetime of this event played thru their minds over and over again....Hell while on earth...

We had one close to home also. They show it after the Tennessee video. A guy destroyed his 56 Chevy gasser. It was a beautiful car.

2000hp Pro Mod car doing an 80 mph burnout with no safety barriers-who would`ve thought about an accident!  ::)   :screwy:

Yes poeple were there of their own free will but it is still the responsibility of those promoting the event to keep it relatively safe.

I'm sorry but I cannot agree with this post. Do you really think for even a minute that anyone, great grandparents on down to little kids would willingly go to a place where a car is going to hurtle itself into their midst and kill several? The people went to see a parade, not to be placed in mortal danger by some guy with more horsepower than sense.

I feel bad for everyone involved, spectators, racers and organizers. Plus the media can use it against anything else car related. Here in Sacramento, they ran a story on a local street racing "crackdown" - which failed to mention how many "street racers" were caught - right before this story and video.

I am not looking to argue, just merely present a point.

This event has been happening for over 15 years.. same cause, same charity, Same Calender of Events (including the burnout contest).  I highly doubt that anybody attending
was unaware of the burnout contest.  What I would like to know is how many other cars burned out before this one.. Spectators WERE aware of what was going on.  :2cents:
I AM truly saddened by what happened. Prayers to all Effected by this tragedy.

One story I read said there were other cars doing short burnouts but nothing of that size or speed.

Those car's are time bomb's. Once you lose it , it's over. That guy never should have done such a long burnout like that in a non-controlled area. Even the best fuel driver wouldn't be able to handle that in such small space..
Bad for everybody involved...........
