Head Gasket For Aluminum Heads

Well I couldnt make up my mind with half the people telling me to buy cometic head gaskets and half the people telling me to buy the felpro 1009's....so I bought the Felpro 1009's and gonna give them a try and also bought a 7lb radiator cap instead of stock 16lb cap so excess pressure can run into the catch can making the head gaskets have a longer life....

Final compression for the Aluminum heads will be 10.9 to 1 ...  :burnout:

4.375 Bore
4.150 Stroke
4.410 Head gasket Bore
-6 piston
.013 deck height (below deck)
.039 compressed gasket

final compression    10.9 to 1

My engine builder and a couple of other builders reccomended the 7lb radiator cap to let off excess pressure to the catch can to help prevent blowing out head gaskets...

The issues guys have most is running the 1009 on a B wedge block. The bore of the gasket is 4.39. That's only .005 larger than a 440 bored .060 over. The problem is, the 4.385 and up bore is an issue. At .030 over when you torque the head, the fire ring will squish into the bore space where the chamfer is cut for the pistons and rings to be installed. Beyond the surface of the block. Without any contact on that side to remove heat of combustion, the gasket burns thru the ring under hard use. And the gasket blows. The bigger the chamfer, the faster the gasket will let go. I believe the std 8317PT1(IIRC?) has a 4.41 bore, and doesnt have that issue on B wedges.

The flepros are ok, i use them on my 440. NO problems. Ill probably switch to cometic when I put my Hemi together. Ive heard a lot of really good things about cometic. But like i said, i havent had issues with the Felpro
