Rear Panel
« on: June 26, 2007 - 10:08:22 AM »
Hey all,

I've been thinking of painting my rear tail panel myself.  Right now it's the same color as the car, Blue, but I'd like to paint it flat black like it's supposed to be.  Is that something I can do by myself or should I have a body shop do it for me?

I would definitly do it myself.  Just look around to see how other cars are masked off and use a gravity fed gun for the painting.  Even the cheap one at Harbor Freight works well for small jobs like that.

Definitly cover the whole car with plastic though. It's amazing how many little black specks you will find all over if you don't....

You need to paint in a well lit location out of the sun.  Preferably a booth.  I will wax a car before I do something like this and leave the wax on it.  Mask it off like 360 said and paint away.  If by chance you get a small hole somewhere the wax on the car will not allow the overspray to stick or at least stick well.  It can be wiped off with the wax.
