'Cuda getting soda blasted
« on: June 23, 2007 - 05:57:07 PM »
Got my Cuda soda blasted today, well at least part of it.  The guy that was doing it ran out of soda before he got the fenders, doors, hood and trunk done but at least the main body got done.  Check it out!  One step closer. :clapping:

It is always cool to see any old car striped to the metal like that.  Kind of makes you believe it is a brand new car being assembled.

Did you soda blast the whole thing?

I would think you could have been fine w/sand on the bottom, floors, and engine compartment.  And use glass or soda for the outside body panels.

You must not have had any rust as soda doesn't take that off.

Looks great!  Just do what you can to get EVERYTHING out of there.  I hear of horror stories of the fine particles of the soda coming out during spray painting.

Sorry for the delay, I found out last week that I had stomach cancer!  Good news is that they removed the tumor and it sounds like I may be good to go once I heel up from the surgery.  Closest thing to getting hit by a truck I've ever had.

For your questions from above, I know I am going back to FE5 Rally red but not sure on the stripe quite yet.  They did use a brown compound called star-blast on the bottom, a little rougher surface but for the bottom it should be fine.  There was very little rust on the entire car, the only rust that it had was behind the drivers quarter maybe the size of an ink pen the rest including bottom & trunk pans were rock solid!  My health will probably slow the project down a bit but at least it sounds like I will be around to finish the car!

I'm adding an additional pic of the drivers side while we were blasting, you can see the rust behind the drivers quarter but that was it.

Project looks great, rest up and get better.  Thank God they were able to get it early.  If you don't mind me asking, was the soda blasting expensive?

Thanks for the kind words.  The guy that did mine is just starting a mobile business and just charged me $800 but I know several others in the area are in the $12-1500+ depending on size and amount of rust you have.
