ebody glass all the same?
« on: June 21, 2007 - 04:09:12 PM »
Did some archive searching and it seems all door glass for the E bodies are different when original, but the reproductions all show to be interchangeable? I have a 1970 challenger convert and a 1970 barracuda hardtop, both could use new door glass if I come across deals due to scratches and age. They are not real bad, but I wanted to be able to jump on deals if I see them.

If i remember right the convertible door glass has a sharp angle where the windshield frame meets the convertible top while the coupes are rounded. I'm pretty sure the convertible door glass is (or was) being reproduced while the coupe wasn't being repro'd last time I checked.

Also...  :stirpot:
Clear glass on non a/c cars. Tinted glass on a/c cars.

Clear glass was available on all E-Bodies, the convertibles included.

Same with tinted glass (all) or tinted windshield only.

They were options that were not specific to any body style.

The 70 rt I am working on has ac and non-tinted windows.  I always thought that meant tinted windows :clueless:

My hardtop is an A/C car and I guess is tinted. I would swear it was not tinted, but laying the glass next to the non A/C convertible it has a slight green tint. Very, very slight tint. Even doing the paper test i would have said it was not tinted if I didn't have the other car to compare it to. It is light enough I want to find a definite factory tint car to compare it to. Both my cars are missing build sheets, is it in the fendertag somewhere?

On a related note if you were going to replace all your glass and actually tint your windows would you start out with untinted glass or go ahead and find factory tinted and tint over it?

I do not see where there would be much difference with aftermarket tint.  Cuda and Challenger use the same door glass.  The convertible uses a different door glass then the hardtop does.  If you look at the front half of a Cuda roof it is the same as a Challenger.  They use the same windshield and moldings. They also share the front half of the drip rail moldings that run along the roof.  Here's a copy of the order sheets where they deal with the glass.
