Road Lamp Relay
« on: June 30, 2007 - 05:57:05 PM »
I am adding road lamps to the Cuda and was wondering whether I really need the relay.  EBay has one on for $400.00.  There must be a better solution.

Recommendations?

Appreciate it.

What is your ultimate goal?  If originality is not crucial there are many relay/switch options to supply power, & I think a relay would be the best way to go for safety.

'70 or '71?

'70 did not use the relay for powering on the lamps.

My ultimate goal is stay as close as possible to original, but $400.00 for a relay is not practical.  $6.00 is good.

Not being electrically competent (as per some of my other posts), would I be able to use  pretty much any relay so long as the leads match up or is there something more complicated to this.  I.E. I have a spare power window relay.  If the leads match up to the plug on the harness, can I simply plug this in?

I have attached a picture of my harness.  Also, would someone be able to tell me what plugs into what.

Single Dark Green = to lights
Double Green/Gray Plug = to switch
Double Green and Yellow/Black Plug = to relay
Red and Yellow/Grey Plug = to power (but where).  On steering column?
Single Pink?
Single Light Green?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have yet to find a $6.00 relay that will work.  PW relay will not work.

Great picture.

I'll track down a relay of some sort.

Thanks.

a relay is a relay , just a 4 or 5 prong 30 amp relay will work , it will not fit thew factory plug , 85 86 are the low powr termianls the 30 & 84? directly across from the 30 are the high amp termianls
