Ignition Wire Set

   With all the brand's and prices out there, what would be a good set for a 73 340 Challenger? Mopar Performence E.C.U. Advanced curve Dist. Blaster coil. Edelbrock Performer Intake, Carb. and Cam. Price isn't a factor but, Holy Cow! What's a guy really need? It's a sweet car but, not a drag racer. Way too many choices, need your help: Pat

I think any name brand set routed correctly, kept away from hot areas like header tubes or exhaust manifolds while not rubbing on anything would be fine. Finding sets that work for a small block (since the wires come from the plug over the exhaust manifold) should be pretty straight forward.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

8MM spiral core wire would be my choice , Color preference may dictate make as different makes do offer diffeent colors

Taylor wires have always worked well for me.

I have MSDs that were suppose to fit my 340 but several of the wires are too long. I contacted MSD & they sent terminals to install after cutting them to proper length, so if you go with them you might as well buy the kit to start with.

My last 2 sets have been Taylor's "custom fit". If you go with a "universal fit" set, you will have to crimp one end on. I was lazy.  :grinyes: I didn't want to pay for a crimper. I agree that a few of my wires were a tad long, but I was able to route them thru the headers without any trouble.

  Thank's a lot guy's! :2thumbs:I had a fellow mopar nut look at what I had, he has a 70 440 Challenger. He say's I have a good set of Taylor's, Keep them! I'm pretty anal about what's in my car but, I guess if it's not broke, I don't have to fix it. Thank's again: Pat

I used a set a msd 8.5 suuper conductors off my wifes vette, they fit perfect on the 440 six pack so if you want to save some money get the ready made wires for a 350 vette under the exhaust wire, vettes came over the valve covers or under the exhaust and they were cheaper than buying them for a 440. Now thats all I run on all my 60s and 70s cars. the older ones get Packard 440 solid core wire, if you dont run electronic ignigition this is the best no resistance at all.

  Thank's for all the input guy's! I was down at my local N.A.P.A. store, picking one of the employee's brains. This guy is the happy owner of a 1970 440 Challenger R/T. He run's M.S.D. but, looked at mine and said I have Taylor's in there right now. "Keep them, they're in good shape! And they don't break down." I was concerned with them because, when changing my spark plug's over to N.G.K. Platnum's, I pulled one of the end's off. He set me up with some spare end's and told me to be more careful. Don't fix what isn't broken, is a motto I sometimes follow.   :lol: If the ignition wires are bad, look for burn marks on the outside(they can short to any ground), or if the problem is internal, you will have a miss. Basically a wire will have high resistance at that point and not provide enough spark.  Ask me how I know.   :lol:

   I know, I know. Sometime's I try to fix thing's I think are broken, find out they weren't broken, but break them in the process of fixing unbroken part's. :clueless: :lol: Pat

 I went to car quest and bought a 30 buck pair of wires for a 70 440-6. They were the correct lenghts and all fit just right for me. No misses.  Like yours, mine is just a daily driver. Point distributor too.
