How to check your wiper switch?
« on: May 26, 2007 - 07:12:45 PM »
My wipers worked when I first got the car a few weeks ago, then they stopped after I messed with the dash the first time.  I have since replaced the motor (One of the motor wires disconnected when I was checking them and I couldn't figure out how to get it connected again), but I still don't get any movement out of the wipers.  I have power going into the switch, but it doesn't seem to be engaging the motor.

Not to sound like a wise crack but, have you checked to see if you have power coming from the switch to the motor?  It may not be a direct wire from one to the other.  Do you have a wiring diagram to help?

ok, switch panel is grounded.  I get power going into the switch, but nothing at the connector coming out of the firewall to the wiper motor.  I traced the wires back with the wiring diagram and there doesn't seem to be any power coming out of the switch.  The wiper motor is new, which wires can I hook up to test the motor?  There are four wires (red, dk blue, dk green and brown).  It looks like it may be the switch, anybody sell the 3 spd switch that isn't demanding your first born?

My wipers don't work, 1970 2 speed, I haven't had time to check anything out yet.
I noticed that my wiper motor had a resistor on it, it looks the same as a ballast resistor.  On the wiring diagram I downloaded I didn't see a resistor in that circuit.

  Thanks for any help or info.

Always make sure that you put the bottom screw in that hold the switch assembly.  That is where it gets it's ground.
