Gas tank sending unit wire
« on: August 12, 2007 - 04:14:48 PM »
Can anyone post a picture of where the fuel tank sending unit wire runs through the trunk? I had to have a new trunk put in and there is no hole to run it through where I would expect it to be. I have no problem drilling something, but I need an idea as to where it won't look outrageously out of place. Oh yeah, a '73 Cuda is what I am dealing with.
On a side note, it is 103 degrees out and I just hung a new gas tank. I have no idea as to what possessed me to do this today, except for my desire to finally get this bloody thing running and out of the garage at least once before the driving season is over.
Thanks in advance....

If you want to try drilling from down below, you can see the rubber grommet on the bottom of my trunk for the blue wire.

Sorry to butt in here, but what is the little metal strap going from the nipple on the tank to the metal fuel line. Is it necessary because I didn't put mine back on. I still have it though.

I believe its for static electricity ground strap. Any rubbing between tank, straps, and floor could create static.

Put it back on.

It might also allow your gas gauge to work.

Well, without this ground strap, your fuel tank sending unit won't be grounded, thus leaving your fuel gauge useless.

Well that's odd. My fuel gauge still works the same as it always did.

SOMETHING must be grounding that pickup tube.  :screwy: Do you have stock gauges, or after-market?

Stock gauges. The fuel gauge has always been off a little. When the tank is full, the gauge reads 3/4. The strap was on it but when I installed my electric fuel pump I couldn't put it back on because I have about 4 or 5 inches of rubber hose between the tank and the pump. Maybe I'll just put a piece of wire from the nipple on the tank to a ground.
