2 bbl to 4 bbl, need some help
« on: July 30, 2007 - 05:21:23 PM »
It looks nice anyways.  Do I need a different bracket  for the kickdown/throttle cable?  On this carb, its about 1" or 1 1/2" out more than my 2 bbl.  As you can see, it has a wicked angle.

I'm guessing I need a different bracket.

And what about that choke?  I thought a 4 bbl mani was a 4 bbl mani...

yes, you need a new bracket to change the angles and make everything line up. Options here are to buy the cool looking AR Engineering 4bbl conversion bracket. The other option is to take your 2bbl bracket, section it to lift it up higher and weld in a spacer. Or you can simply take a 2nd 2bbl bracket and bolt it to the original bracket to create the additional height.

I have had good luck with flipping the KD Extension to the otherside of the bracket.  I hope that makes sense?  You take the long arm at the top and install it on the other side of the pivot.  Make sure on your springs that the proper tension is used on the kd so no sticking occurs.

Hi Steve, I wasn't aware you had a 2bbl on their before. You will need a 4bbl bracket to set it up the right way. I'll look to see if I have any 4bbl brackets. The question is are small block brackets different from the big blocks?
Also what year manifold is that off of. It looks like the right manifold #2806301 thats for a 68/69 383 with a AVS. It's been sometime since I messed with big block stuff. The choke I think could still be available thru your local auto store.

All you guys, big thanks.

Tom, I know exactly what you mean about the KD linkage, I actually did that before I came on here, switched it to the other side that is.  It still isnt how I want it though, you can tell it doesnt look right.

Vin, I dont know what year the mani is from.  Funny thing is that carb sort of covers some of it up, so unless that choke is really low, I dont know if it will work.  I could always try and find one here online quick.

And yes, I dont know if a SB bracket is different from a BB bracket.  Someone on here knows...

That is a new repro part available through Dodge dealers. Call you local one with that part number and see what he can get it for. Might be able to save a few bucks, but not a whole lot.

Just called the dealer, he said it was discontinued in '87.  He couldnt find it.   :dupe:

Is that number superceded to another one?  He said it wasnt.   :violin:

Anybody got a used one?  Or can someone else call their dealer, and not talk to a chevy guy?  (I know he's a chevy guy, I dont have any idea why he works there)

EDIT:

Now that I got to thinking about it, maybe he was thinking the pull-off?   :dunno:

So, I got the bracket figured out.  I made two 2.5 inch extensions for the two bolts that hold down that bracket.  I made them from like 3/16 aluminum we had laying around.  Drilled two 3/8 holes and viola, it lines up.

I put the fuel line on, and fired it up.  Runs good/idles good.  Till it got hot.   :poopoke:

It started leaking from the shaft that I boxed in the pic.  Why?  I found that extremely odd.  Only when it got hot.

I took it for a drive, and it flooded out after a mile.

I just made a longer and re-cut  flat bar (from ACE Hardware) for the AT kickdown, and reused the 2bbl stuff when using a 4bbl factory type manifold.  worked great.

this is from the challenger when I still had the 383/auto in it with M1 dual plane and a Holley 700 dp
