Anyone fix wiper motors?
« on: September 23, 2007 - 11:21:01 PM »
Have a variable speed wiper motor that won't park.  I don't want to get another at the parts counter and I don't need this one all stripped down, media blasted, and cadmium plated.  I can make it presentable, but I can't make it work.  If anyone fixes these or knows someone who fixes these, I'd like to know.  Thanks

On the variable speed wiper switch for a Challenger or Cuda, there is one extra spade connector that is left on the back of the switch when you plug in the wiper motor plug and the washer plug.  The wipers seem to work without it (except they won't go to the home position when turned off), but I was wondering if that connector serves any purpose on an E-body. Anyone know?

No.

Is the switch panel grounded?  Wipers won't park if it isn't.

Thanks for the advice.  I checked out the wiper motor on an E-body with a switch I know is grounded and works, and the wiper motor still didn't park.  I saw the article on the tech thread about repairing these, but the pictures were a little foggy otherwise I would maybe try.  Maybe somebody on the board can fix the park switch in the motor for a reasonable charge.

I thought I remember reading somewhere on here that if you used mismatched switch/wiper motor that you would burn it up? Or is that just a 3 speed wiper with a 2 speed switch?

I don't know but the switches I used were variable-speed.  The two-speed and three-speed applications have different sockets so they won't fit into a variable speed switch.
