Alternator for a 5.7
« on: July 27, 2007 - 10:32:02 AM »
I called into O'Reillys for an alternator for my 5.7, and the lowest amperage one started at over $200 not including core charge!   :scared:  Which Im guessing would be about $50 or so.  Seems like an awful lot just for an alternator.

My question is, what other type of alternator could I put on that isnt so dang expensive, and at what amperage?  I wont be running subs, amp, really hardly anything, so it really doesnt need to put out much juice.  Or am I just being too cheap?   :1zhelp:

You are being cheap. Aren't we all?
I think it is internally regulated as well so you need the factory ECM or convert it to be internally regulated. Best bet is to buy one at a yard.

I searched for a 04 durango 160 amp and came up with quite a few. one was lifetime warranty for $85.

Thanks guys.  But is an alternator an alternator?  I'd really like a small one, because I am going to mount is on the lower drivers side.  Would the ECM notice anything different if there was a different alternator on it?   :clueless:
