Indexing speedo gear?
« on: August 19, 2007 - 07:05:08 PM »
OK, I finally got the time to install the new speedometer gear for my gear ratio and tire size.  I thought that I had put everything back in correctly, but the speedometer now does not work.  I tried taking everything back out, re-indexing it, but still nothing.  I changed to the white 37 tooth gear and the install was pretty simple.  Any tips on exactly how it should be indexed?  Should I put the cable on to the housing first to make sure everything is right there first?  Any help would be again much appreciated.  Thanks.

The 37 should fall between the 'fork' in the speedo gear housing retainer. Such as if it said 35-45 that fork should be between those numbers. Make sure its hooked up at the back of the speedo too..

so if I am understanding you correctly, I need to make sure the housing retainer clip is at that point where it will be in between those two marks? Also, I am pretty sure it is good to go in the back, as the speedo was working correctly before the switch, just off by about 15 mph.

If you look at your speedo housing,it says 32-38 on it. Next to those numbers there is a stamped "dash" or line, put that line right at this bump on the housing
(6 o'clock position of speedo hole)and your all set!
