Need Help with '73 Duster
« on: August 14, 2007 - 10:20:50 PM »
Well boys and girls I just found a "father/son" project car for my son's 17th birthday.  We picked up a '73 Duster in the Tampa area for $1,800.  It looks pretty solid with some very fixable rust issues.  (Sorry I have no pics yet, the camera battery was dead.  Hope to post pics by this weekend.)  It currently has a 225 in it that is in questionable shape.  I was thinking about putting the 318 in my garage in it and was wondering:

Can I, and what will I have to do to make the swap without changing the K-member?

Will the trans in the Duster bolt up to the 318?  If not will the trans (I think it's a 904) from my Cuda fit?

What vendors have you, the vastly experienced members of the C-C.com forum, had the best experiences with (price is a major consideration)?  I'm talking interior and exterior parts.

Any hints/suggestions/recommendations will be well received and greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

fantum
Mike

the only 2 ways to install a V8 on a /6 K frame is either with Schumaker engine mounts or using a engine plate across the front of the engine , the K frame swap is not hard though
No V8 tranny will bolt to the slant 6 or reverse , your 904 will work if it is from a small block  originally

Thanks, gents.

Chryco,  I have a 904 for both engines.  My main concern was the fit in the Duster.  Thanks for the info.

vinb,  I'm interested in the t-bars.  What'll they set me back?  (Remember, I'm doing this and my Cuda at the same time and you know what kind of pinch that puts on the pocket book!).

My son's taken pics of the car and I will try to post them this weekend when I have more time.

Again, thanks to you both.

fantum, I'll go in the shed this weekend and check some boxes just to make sure I still have them.
