Number fun
« on: August 19, 2007 - 09:50:35 AM »
I've been trying to learn more about my car. I have a build sheet,no tag.  I'm trying to figure out how close this block is to original. Or would it be a "date correct" block? I don't know the build date of the car. If the first 3 of the VO# are the SPD#... 3/06. The cast date on the block is 1-12-73. How close do these need to be?I think this block is from the same plant (from the serial...3M)   I know it is not #'s matching but if it's date correct it may change future build plans. This #'s stuff is a whole 'nother language... :1zhelp:

Engines would have been cast 3-9 months ahead of a car build. So I wouldn't think a date coded block that is after the build date of your car is going to matter much unless it is a warrenty block. But then again, I don't know the # matching rules very well either.

You can nail down the car build date with the vin. Google vin decoders and try a few. Also, a build sheet gives you becoup more info than a fender tag would. With the build sheet you could always have a new tag created.

I've tried every VIN decoder there is. Every build sheet decoder too. Nothing on build dates. I think the build date of these cars are urban myths anyways.    This is a "date correct" block.  I don't care that much,But I'd prefer to build up something else to play with more.Keep this motor around.   Thanks HP2
