Can anyone shed some light on these numbers and markings?
« on: August 14, 2007 - 08:18:40 PM »
They are from the heads which I believe are 71-73 BB variety (are the 282 0 and 281 0 date codes?) and crank of the 440 that was in my Challenger. All the rods had LY on them. The block is dated May 1970 and shows 'G' on the pad next to the distributor. I knew this was a Heinz 57 drivetrain, just curious :clueless:

R.010 is the rods cut .010 under , looks like the mains were polished 1-2 thou under
heads are 346 casting used in 71-72 , G is 71 so that would be a match
281/282-0 would be 282 day of 70 which would also match

I read once that the 28 was the day then the next digit was the month-jan / Feb and 0 was the year = 70. It makes sense though too with the 282 281 being the days into the year.
