This is the Mopar one off of trucks and some b-bodies it's about 4 inches thick and I had to drill the wheel to fit and mount my stock horn button.

This is the Grant "Challenger" wheel

Drove over to the shop and looked at a spare column and wheel. I see the gap they are talking about. With the wheel on it was not really noticeable. however with just a spacer and the wrong adapter it will be noticeable. I know Grant makes a ton of adapter rings, but don't know if they make one bigger without having to go to the challenger/cuda specific signature one you are looking at. Looks like I'll need the B body one when I put the new wheel on. I kind of like the original crush can better, is it really possible to shorten it?

Yes, you can shorten it.  My Friend at Carlisle with the red '70 Challenger vert with the 340 Shaker had one in it. With a cut-off tool and a welder, anything is possible.

I had a bigger cover for that column when I used a Grant steering wheel adapter too.  It covered the gap but the wheel was still too close to the dash. You can still get it from Grant or SummitRacing.

I just put some 3/8 thick washers up under where the steering column bolts onto and it lowered the column/wheel and gave me enough steering clearance...

Sorry guys, I'm a bit confused.  I have the original standard 70 barracuda steering wheel and crush can on my car.  I was looking at buying a Grant 'Tuff-copy' Challenger series wheel with their installation kit.  Does what you have been discussing mean that it won't just bolt on without leaving a gap or will be too close to the dash.  Doesn't it just go in the same location as the current wheel? :clueless:

Also, will a Grant wheel take the factory rimblow Barracuda centre cap if I can find one??

For a Tuff Copy wheel,  You have to drill the holes for the locater and studs to go through from your crush can. you then have to move your horn button retainer over and screw it on with 3 more drilled holes.  You then have to buy a tuff wheel horn button for it.  If you use grant's  wheel adapter,  you don't use the crush can and the wheel gets really close to the dash.

The NEW "Tuff-Copy" grant wheel will just bolt onto the original column.  The old "tuff-copy" wheel you had to drill holes for.

Different Grant wheel, but it may answer some questions.
