Fuel question

How long can 110 octane fuel sit before octane levels start to decrease? I remember seeing a thread about this a while back but I can't seem to find it now.

I wasn't aware octane levels would decrease. In 93 octane gas, it's the additives that start to turn to varnish after about 6 months. I'm not sure if there are any additives in 110 octane gas or not.

  I'm sure I read something here a while back about gas losing its octane rating if it sits for a long period of time. The reason I ask is my Brother was talking about buying a 55 gallon drum of racing fuel to use in his Chebby drag car, but I doubt he'll use even half of it in one season. So, will the gas still be good next season?

If the can is perfectly sealed, it has a shelf life of a year or two. Once the can is openned, it drops to months. And capping it again wont stop that. It will slow down the evaporation tho. The best bet is to run what you can, add stabilizer to a tank of it in the car, and sell the rest. Buy fresh next year. I buy in 5 gall pails. 1 track day is 2 pails...lol.
