HP Gain
« on: August 23, 2007 - 06:51:01 PM »
My current set up is a 1980 360(standard bore). The bottom end is stock, compression is 8.5 at best.

The heads are the stock 1980 smoger units with the small valves.

I have a old eddy torker cam and Torker II intake (both not designed for the street but I was young and stupid at the time). Topped off with a 750 vac secondary Holly.

The car always ran real well once it hit the RPM the cam and intake were designed for.

What would I gain HP and torque wise if I were to put a set of stock X heads on it?  :dunno:

Does anyone have realistic flow numbers on the X heads and non-X heads that would work in Desktop Dyno?

Thanks,

Jas

if you want a proven HP gain I would use a set of the 87-92 308 casting truck heads , ported with stock valve sizes I gained 41 RWhp over X heads

There is no major difference in the heads. It would be at best a lateral move. You best approach IMO, would be to pull your cam, and swap in a modern grind to work with the low sompression, install matching springs, and upgrade the intake to a std performer. Those few ($700 maybe) changes, and you wont recognize the engine. It will be that much better.
