Fasten Seat Belt Light - HELP!
« on: August 18, 2007 - 09:55:09 PM »
My '74 Challenger lights and seat belts worked fine; all of a sudden, the "fasten seat belt light" on the right side of the dash continues to stay lit after seat belts are fastened.   It goes out when engine is off and either door is open -- but then comes back on (after a few seconds) when (either) door is closed (no key in ignition).   Anybody got any ideas as to what might have happened?   Was working perfectly before?

:feedback:   Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure, but did you reset the relay on the drivers fenderwell? Or try unplugging it at the relay?

Thanks for the tip -- tried it -- but no luck..... not sure what is going on.... just stays on virtually all the time.    This year was the first of the interlock system (weight ont he passenger seat = must have seat belt fastened or car won't start).... so suspect the wiring is a bit complicated.   Strange thing is -- all was fine for nearly a year -- then "wam" -- light stays on......   Perhaps someone out there is a wiring geru?

seat belt system only works with the ign. on.
so if it is working with ign. off- I suspect that you have a short in the wiring- I would check around the bulkhead harness wiring and up around the dash area. look for melted wires or tape wrap.
try removing a fuse at a time to see what circuit turns it on.
if all fuses are out- then it's time to trace out the main power wires!!!

Check your cont. unit to see if it is pluged in all the way. a lose plug gives your seat belt module a mind of its own. Been there done that.

In 74 they started using a seat belt cont. if you have one it is located under the dash left side behind and above heater cont. It has 2 multy conductor plugs going to it. The 2 large wires were prone to poor contact. Make odd things happen. Good luck. It's blue in colour, 5" X 3" x 1"
