Is my ars to skinny?
« on: August 30, 2007 - 10:23:07 PM »
I have another post about my Cuda axles earlier this week http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=36771.0
The short story is I had to shorten my new axles by 2 inches each to make them fit.  The old axles were also 2 inches shorter than the stock axle length. I've got a few photos after reassembly.  I have 275/60/15 on 15x7 rallyes.  Does it look like the diff is narrowed?

That is what I was thinking too?  I know the B Body Dana's were shorter, how much???  What rear end are you running?

It's an 8 3/4.  The axles are A body length if I measured them correctly.  I'm a little perplexed as I've had the car for 2 years and never thought for a second that the diff was a little narrow.  The springs mounts all look stock so it seems impossible that the diff could be narrowed.  The only other possibility is that Yukon supplied extra long axles/measured them wrong.  They were supposed to be 30" long.  I assumed that they were measured from the front of the bearing to the end of the axle.  I'll have to get some more measurements now that it's not on axle stands after getting new 3.55's, bearings, Dyna-Lok, bearings, axles, etc.

My original axles were 27.5" from the outer bearing to the end of the axle.  The new axles were 29.5".  I think they probably should be measured from the hub face which would add 2.25" to the above measurements.  Thus I probably have a std E body housing. I'm thinking Yukon just screwed up and gave me extra long axles because they measured wrong.  I really didn't need the hassle.  I guess my ars isn't skinny.  I should have just asked the wife. :icon16:
