Finished Floorpans
« on: August 07, 2007 - 08:18:04 PM »
Hey everyone, awhile ago I said I was going to post pictures of my floorpan job.  I did one side and then was gone for a month and just finished the other side.  This was my first real attempt at panel replacement.  Basically what I did was to use a spot weld cutter on a cordless drill to drill out the spot welds on the outside and rear edges then cut along the trans tunnel and front edges.  Then I left an overlap at the cut edges and used self drilling sheetmetal screws to hold the pan in place every 2-4".  Then I just stitch welded in between the screws on the edge, removed the screws and filled the holes with the welder.  For the spot welds on the crossmembers I just drilled 3/8" holes in the pan over them and filled the holes with the welder.  Finally I used seam sealer on the edges.  One thing to note, I shopped around a bunch for the pans.  As you can see from the pics I did the front 3/4 length and the middle pieces.  I bought mine from ADEALS auto parts.  I have bought a bunch of stuff from him, after you add shipping he has always been the best price for my stuff, and always gets it out to me quickly.  I can't remember how much I saved over year one but I believe it was well over $100, almost $200 if I remember right.  Anyways, hope this helps anyone considering doing their pans.

Thanks for the feedback!  I wanted to include pics of the removed pans so that you can see where all the original spot welds are.  For me that was one of the hardest parts was finding them.  As the pans get older and more rusted, they become less obvious.

What did you do with the underside? Did you consider using the glue down method? I am getting ready to do my front driver floor pan, and i want to use the best method for durability and keep moisture out around the edges.
