Pinion Snubber Needed?
« on: September 03, 2007 - 06:12:29 PM »
I have seen many cases where people use Dana 60's out of trucks and put them on their e-body these housings do not have the pinion snubber.  My question is does it matter if it has one?  The application would be street/strip use.  What have you guys experienced?  I know Neil can weigh in on this one.

the snubber helps a LOT at the track  but gives a horrible ride on the street , the floor in really strong enough to take the pounding of the snubber on a long term basis but you can weld a bridge into the tunnel above the diff with a threaded snubber to do the same thing

The only time I've ever benefited from having a snubber was when I was putting lots of horses down and was using a stock rear suspension. The power tended to override the springs ability to hold things down and the snubber helped resist that rotation. After switching to the proper SS springs, the snubber because worthless as the springs now created enough body seperation that I never used the snubber.

FWIW, Fox bodied mustangs also use a snubber, but it bolts to the body pan instead of the axle.
