Power Booster Hissing
« on: September 12, 2008 - 09:55:20 AM »
After reading a few posts and talking to friends it appears that I may have a blown power brake booster. I am loosing a small amount of fluid every few trips around town, enought that I need to keep checking the fluid level. And when I press down on the brake pedal very sudden I can hear a slight hissing sound from under the dash. Can you guys tell me what my options are as far as rebuilding or replacing the booster?
Thanks

It sounds like the master has been back bleeding into your bosster diaphram and has caused it to rupture or split.  I would have a look on Rockauto and buy a replacement unit as they are cheap to buy and would be the easiest remedy, in my opinion anywayz. :2thumbs:

:iagree:  If you are loosing fluid, it is the master cylinder that it bad, though the power booster may be bad now also.

 Glad we could help in any small way possible.

In fact, if you do a search here under rock auto you may find discount codes listed for even better prices when you order :2thumbs:

Yep if it's fluid your master cylinder is the problem...... My booster has been hissing for over 30 years, especially noticeable if the engine is off.

My booster started hissing a few days ago.  No fluid though.  Rockauto has a combo booster/master cylinder for 113 plus shipping.  I checked locally at O'rielly's auto and they had the combo for $109.
