71Fish, in the newest Jegs magazine on pg. 43, they have gear drives for small blocks.  Milodon makes it and it's one of the "cheater gear drives" for $329.99 part number 697-13600.  As for being noisy or quiet, it doesn't say... ::)
1973 Dodge Challenger......................The ongoing project. (00/----\00)
1991 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin-Turbo....The sunny day cruiser (RTBoost)
1990 Toyota Celica GT Liftback...........The new daily & winter driver.

Thanks for your responses. I was looking for the Pete Jackson version for the small block.. & I don't think they make it.

I've heard so many good things about the gear drives vs even a good billet timing chain.. that how can I not spend the extra cash on one. I don't even want to tell you how much is in the 340 already.. last thing I need is for the timing to slip after a fwew years. I know guys who swear by these gears

I know I need the 3 bolt cam.. which I have.. solid only for me   ;D

340 should be close to 450 horsies.. now that's a sleeper!!

OT - by chance did anyone see the 71 conv barracuda 4 sale on ebay?? reserve met @ 38k.... WHOA!!   :o

I have a liitle experience w/gear drives as I used to run them in the '67 427 chevelle I once owned...pete jackson has the noisiest one bar none because of the design (drop-in dual-idler), which is also very hard on the pushrods and may bend them if the motor is run hard. milodon uses a fixed single idler which is quieter but much more gentle on the valvetrain. in a nut shell... the pete jackson sounds sexier but the milodon is safer. hope this helps.
