I had the same problem when I put mine back on.  Finally lowered the tank and got a straight in shot with the tube.  Took a while though.

 Your right DAYLEY, the angle is most important. We tilted the opposite side of the tank downward a bit and it worked fine. Don't forget to fit the trunk seal first or:hyper::swear:  Also mask the filler neck to help prevent scrathing it on the trunk floor.

 It seems the straps can be over tightened too. Once the 90 at the j-hook starts to bend upwards, that is enough.

The angle is soooo important.  When I was tugging on the tank from underneath it was impossible to get it out!!!

When I angled the tank so the far end was on the ground and the side where the filler neck went in was close to the hole in the trunk pan, I just twisted as I pulled and it came out in lterally 10-15 seconds!!!

Twisting while pulling helps, along with lots of WD-40!!!
