increasing the size is not nessisarily the only goal , I have heard of 570 ci low deck B engines ... this is OK for short life Race engines where rebuilds are regular & the budget will support the maintainence but as stated above problems arise with very short pistons which are not as stable in the bores which can fail the piston with collapsed skirts or poor ring seal with rings over the piston pin or just th episton rocking from being short , also you lose rod ratio which will lead to higher fuel consumption, higher loads on the piston sideways & more stress on the con rods , possibly lower torque output & premature wear
for street/ strip applications I tend to lean towards Less = More , I like the conservative 451 [440 crank & rods ]or 470 ci low deck or the 512 High deck [1/2" crank & 7.1" long con rods ] , these offer good rod ratios , good engine life & excellent power , without exotic oiling systems
