Crate Hemi Timing
« on: September 21, 2007 - 10:22:36 PM »
I have never played with/checked Nikki's timing. Can anyone tell me the base timing for a basically stock Crate Hemi?  :dunno: I thoght I'd play a bit tomorrow and would like to know a good place to start. THANKS

I would bring the rPM TO 3000 & ADVANCE THE TIMING until you can hear it pop in the exhaust & back it off until the rpm just starts to drop & lock it down there , typically you should end up around 16* at idle & 36 total as long as the vacuum advance is disconnected but who says your damper or indicater are right ?

depends if the dist has 20* mechanical advance curve & if the timing marks are correct on your engine , if not you could be out to lunch

Ok , I played "tuner" (dumba$$) this weekend. Cured one issue I had. But as my luck goes, still have another. Carb related maybe??? I seem to have a slight miss at 45MPH. Above that or below that no problem. Also a response delay on WOT from a standing start. Very respondsive when I'm under the hood/and in divability situations. Just a delayed reaction off the line so to speak on WOT. The adjustments on the pumps seems. Good response from pump shot in all other situations.

Also I didn't realize the difference in timeing between an oringinal (Friends 68) And newer crates (mines 01). I asked him  about his timing , his is TDC. Mine would barely run at that , but had to try it for the heck of it. Different cams I guess??

Anyway pardon my stupidity..... suggestion?? THANKS
