Rallye Mirror Question
« on: September 25, 2007 - 01:43:02 PM »
Could somebody please explain to me how to take apart a rallye Mirror (Drivers side), I need to remove the base, I have unscrewed the base from the mirror head but how do you get the base past the remote knob? It looks like you have to pry the lead apart but isn't that going to mess up everything when you try to put it back together and re-crimp the lead? There's got to be an easier way.  Thanks

You do have to CAREFULLY pry the crimped diecast metal thing apart.  Use a very small screwdriver and slowly work it up and down in the grooves spreading them apart until you can free the cable. Twisting the screwdriver will effectively spread the groove open slowly.  I marked the cables and the slots with colors so I knew which cable was going back into each slot.  I'm not sure that is necessary, but I wanted it to work when I put it back together (and it does).  Good luck

I tried the trick useing a dremel tool. After getting the mirror rechromed and recrimping the cables back on, it wasn't quite the same again. It's a pain, no matter how you do it.  :eek4:
