blower hole in firewall
« on: January 08, 2008 - 03:40:28 PM »
my car originally had air, but since most parts are long gone and I don`t need a/c ,I want to go with a heater only.  I noticed that cars with a/c have a larger hole for the blower motor than cars without.  * Do I have to weld up the old hole and cut a new one in, or can I use the same?
                                                                      * There was no blower in the car when I bought it...are they the same with and w/o air?
                                                                      * I want to use a heater box from a non air car; are the waterhoses going through the firewall
                                                                         in the same place?
thanks, Bart

for our challenger...we cut a piece of sheet metal from a template that traced the top weld and the side wheel well... welded a clip on the back to slide into the blower hole... and then tacked it at the bottom.  on this sheet metal we attached an electric heater control to sort of hide the fact we had a new piece of metal there.

Just use an a/c type blower that goes on the car and hook up the heater hoses to what is there assuming the heater core is good. On non-a/c cars the heater hoses are in a different position.

that`s looking pretty neat in the challenger   I think I will cut out the entire panel and go with a completely different heaterbox and blower. I tested the core and it`s leaking...and since I don`t have the blowermotor either, I guess it is a good moment to clean up the enginebay and keep the stuff inside the vehicle

thanks for the feedback
