What other bodies AC lines would work on my 73?
« on: September 26, 2007 - 04:49:50 PM »
Guys, everything AC was removed from my 73 Chally in its past. I have a compressor with correct brackets to bolt to my 340. My local Pick a Part has several Newports and Furys, and Dodge vans with all the ac still available. Will any of the cars ac lines be usable on the 73? The Newports and Furys are 70 to 75 models. thanks

It would take a donor car with a 340, but I would doubt any of the ones you suggested had a 340 in it. I could be wrong.  :dunno:

Hmmmmm, why would it need to be a 340? They are all small blocks, mostly 360's and some 318's.  But they all have the same type compressor.  All I am looking for is mainly the ends to bolt to the compressor, the condenser, the evaparator and the filter dryer.  As for all the rubber hoses, I can have new ones made for any length I wish.   I guess if I had a set that was correct , I could take them and compare to my finds.  Just hoping someone had already   "been there and done that".   thanks

The lines from 70 to 71-4 are different. 71 they changed some of the fittings to female to male and vs versa. Also the line from the drier to the condensor also changed along with the drier and the condenser. (Just in case you run accross any of this stuff) For your question....

First pic is of a 71 Chally. You can see the condenser has the inlet and the outlet right next to each other. I believe that 72-74 is the same as 71.

Second pic is of a 70 Chally and you can see the condenser has the connections at the opposite ends. Also you can see the hard line on the pass side that I don't think you will be able to pull off another vehicle, but you might. The 71-74 version of this is quite a bit longer.

Third is a 71 Chally and a nice shot of the driver side line.

Last one is of a 70 Chally again showing more detail.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Thanks Lunch, these pixs help alot.  Looks like the setup I am after is a lot like the 72 Charger that I just got going. It has both lines attaching to the condensor on one side. I'll keep these pixs for reference when I go back to the bone yard..........

As stated already the lines from a 71-74 E or B body should be the same. Here is a pic of my 73 with a/c. All small blocks should be the same.  Hope it helps.
