Cuda Console modification
« on: September 26, 2007 - 01:42:49 PM »
Has anyone tried putting 4 gauges (volts, oil, water, trans) into the front of the console with angled bezels toward the driver.  Do you think it would interfer with the auto linkage under the console?  I hate to cut four wholes in the console and find the gauges won't fit.

First of all, how good of shape is your console in?  I'm sure if yours is good, someone here has one that has holes in the front already drilled from a tach, cb, etc.  Maybe you could trade, that way you wouldnt have to feel so bad about cutting into it.

Second, no, I havent seen anything like it.  What would be left in the dash?  Would seem kinda bare to me.

I have considered a similar setup in the console itself (pop door and have gauges facing you). Not the best for driving but I wanted the factory look in the interior. I have also seen where some guys have mounted a gauge inside the ashtray/lighter area. This appealed to me because it still looked stock. I think you will be fine with clearance from shift mech. though
My 2 cents

This is what I was thinking, only having beveled rings leaning toward the driver.  Would you think the linkage in that are would interfere with the gauge and/or wiring?  It's a bad picture because of the conversion from bmp to gif, but you can get the general idea.

Hmm, at the risk of looking like a 69 Camaro, I would think it would look better facing back.

If they didnt recess too far into the console they may work. and going with a few posts back, i put a tiny speaker in my ashtray; when you open it, it definitely makes a sound difference.

if you are going to do this I would get a couple of the pillar pods & mold them together to face you & sit ontop of the console & not cut the console at all

I would probably buy some "Shelbypods" that the Shelby Mustangs were delivered with and try to mold them into the console. My brother have one in his 69 Mustang and they look pretty cool!
