I think the Angel Eyes can be pretty cool looking on the right car.  First time I saw them on a muscle car was on "Blackened" that was built for the creator of Overhaulin by Year One.

I have a huge soft spot for the '69 Mustang as well.

Those look a lot closer to factory than mine. I hope they are closer in size as well.

The ones I got cost about $20/pair with the bulbs. That explains the need for the modifications I guess... :misbehaving:

Hella used to be the most common maker of 7" (dual) H4 headlights; they were not DOT approved so only legal for motorcycle and off-road use, and looked unusual because they were almost flat. Cibie used to make lights with a 'sealed' glass capsule inside; the reflector unit was completely sealed but accepted an H4 bulb; those were street legal but the reflector pattern wasn't as good as the Hella or other "European" type lights.

That's weird, the hella 7" H4 replacements I have are DOT approved, flat lens with the european pattern....running 60/100W bulbs in them
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....

Are the 60s nice and bright? I see Goody has 90s. Another guy on Moparts has 80s. I'm just wondering how bright they are compared to a car with modern Xenon bulbs. :clueless:

I think they are fine as far as brightness is concerned. Compared to a xenon bulb, the intensity/color of the light is not the same. However, compared to a standard halogen sealed beam it's about 2x brighter and whiter, because of the bulb and 10x more focused because of the hella lens. with the lamps adjusted correctly, it is more than enough for me, the sharp cutoff of the light pattern takes some getting used to but I like it. It definitely will show the weakness of the stock charging system especially at idle. I would like to do a HID conversion eventually, but that is pretty far on the back burner right now.

Maybe DOT has loosened up the regs since I bought mine; it might make sense with the proliferation of replaceable element headlight units from the factories, but even most current American cars have a substandard light pattern forced by the DOT.  I wasn't aware that any H4 based headlights other than the Cibie sealed capsule units had received DOT approval; thats good news.
