Yes Mike. I just checked it and it pegs well past full. Not sure if it matters but the oil gauge reads in the high range, and the temp reads pretty low. (BTW; I have a high volume oil pump and all new cooling components.)

It sounds like you are fine.  :2thumbs:

I bought an aftermarket fuel sending unit because my original looked like crap. It worked, but looked like crap. Guess what? I gave that sending unit to April for her Cuda, and now my new fancy-schmancy sending unit reads about one line lower than the actual fuel in the tank.   :stomp: Meanwhile, April is laughing at me.  :bricks1:

As for the rest, my temp gauge reads low(good), and my oil pressure is mid gauge, but you have a hi-volume pump, so again, you are good.

Sounds like the sending unit may need to be ....uhh...adjusted...5 gallons would be just under 1/3 of the 18 gallon capacity. Specs on the sending unit are 73 ohms +-12 ohms at the bottom/empty, 9.6 ohms +-1 ohm at the top/full. If the sending unit checks out then you need to bend the float arm to place the resistor at the proper level. In your case the float needs to be bent down to raise the position of the resistor.

Wade,

  GREAT advice.  :2thumbs:

In my case, I'm sure it's my float arm as I made sure to turn the sending unit to the right before I tightened it up in the tank. So my pick-up tube would be at the bottom.

I have to tell you, I'm not taking that thing out again!!  :smilielol: I'll live with it.  :grinyes:

Guess I should have mentioned to check that you have a good frame to sending unit ground 1st.

Also, for those of you that do not know, vintage Mopars will typically give false high readings..the 1st half of the tank seems to be much larger than the second half...has to do with having to burn off a few gallons to drop the float significantly.

Caught your replies mid post but still pretty relevant.

Thanks MEK! It's nice to be all good and fine. :ylsuper:

I figured the float was off on the last one, but with the new sender confirming a consistent low reading, it has me thinking. Would an insufficient ground cause a lower reading. I have totally insulated the tank from any body contact (straps and trunk floor) so the only ground is via the stock clip-on fueline doohickey.

I will check the resistances as well tomorrow. Thanks for the info!

Oh ya,  can the sender be removed with the tank in place? :worshippy

Poor ground could be the culprit....word is the sending unit is removable  with the LH exhaust shield(if you have) removed.

  :iagree:

Removing the sending unit usn't that tough with the tank installed. Just jack up the rear, and take off the back driver's side tire for some elbow room under there.

I can't seem to get the fuel to the carb though the new fuel line. Does it need to be primed or something?

Starts fine after filling the float bowl but, dies after that fuel is gone.

When I pulled the hose at the (stock) fuel pump there was a suction sound like maybe a blockage to the tank. Bye the way, the sending unit was replaced as well.  :1zhelp:

I had a similar problem with mine. I ended up removing the fuel line going into the fuel pump. Since the tank, lines, and sending unit were new the pump was having a hard time pumping to prime the lines. Once the fuel was running from the tank I reattached the line to the pump and voila, all is good.
