fuel pressure problem

Ok here we go, replaced pump, still the same, replaced regulater,still the same, replaced guage, still the same, can  a vacuum leak cause this?? redid the intake, took it off and reinstalled it again, and used permatex and let it sit for a couple of days before starting it again.  I know the car sat for 21 years in a garage with o0ut being started. I took out the #5 plug and it keeps on gettin fouled,  maybe rings, valve guides? anymore ideas???

Did you check the pushrod yet? You could also try and suck gas out of a temporary container to prove that the suction line is/isn't good (just while the car is idling). I suppose the other possibility is that the cam is worn.

Ok, found the problem, head gasket, pulled the heads off last night,

Sounds like the engine might be due for some work after sitting all that time.  A failed head gasket won't affect fuel pressure though???

I know,  I still have no clue on fuel pressure, but  the engine is in bad shape, head gasket , some of the rings were stuck too,  but it did sit for 20 plus years without bein started. It was built in 84 and it only racked up 1200 miles. But it is bein redone again and it will be better than ever

New doesnt mean good. When you remove the fuel ca, you should not hear any air whooshing in or out of the tank. If you do, the vent line is plugged or capped. I got burnt that way before, except the car would run great for about 10 miles. Then lose power and ultimately die. The better the pump, the longer it can pull that vaccum.

    Is your fuel pressure gage liquid filled?  If so, I'd drain it, I did to mine.  Temperature effects liquid filled gages drop with increased temp and increase with colder temps.  Have 1 gage on hood and 1 off regulator.  They didn't agree so I did a little research and found the answer at http://www.aeromotiveinc.com/faq.php?id=63 question 2.

I have the liquid filled gauge under my hood. Even after driving a few hours, it really doesn't vary much. I think unless he has headers that are un-coated, the heat wouldn't be enough to mess with the reading.

well once we get the new motor done, i will have to re check everything, it is a liquid filled guage. Someware along the line, the previous owner changed the motor, it had a crane 600" lift , 268 deg at .050,  ross domed pistons that were shaved, and bone stock 906 heads so this motor was a mess, we started findung out more and more, what was done each day.
