compression with aluminum heads
« on: October 02, 2007 - 09:22:42 PM »
What is the max compresion I can run with aluminum heads and still run pump gas 89 and 92 octane? What if I possibly may supercharge in the future?

It really depends on cam design but generally you will be safe in the 10.6:1 range
to max power using a blower you need to be in the mid 8:1 range

Well if you have 10.5 to 1 compression and wanna supercharge in the future the cheapest way to do it is take the heads off and put on a set of thick cometic gaskets anw will probably have to have some longer cylinder head dowels put in... :working:

I dont think I'd build for one type. If a blower is going on, they need lower static compression. A lot depends on what kind of blower too. Centrifical with an inter or after-cooler can take more static than a big oldschool roots type. I would simply build soemthing in the 9:1 range if a blower is in the future, and cam it accordingly for N/A. You can still make killer power on lower static ratio. Just pay attention to cam choices.

the mopar .528 cam rocks and has a wide centerline which is what you need for a blower but is also a great cam for N/A.... add 1.6 rockers and you got .561 lift  :working:
