So pissed off right now

Well, I'm gonna vent for a second before going back out to the garage to keep working. So anyway I'm working on the trunk of my 72. The metal is "ok" but has some surface rust that the previous owner por'd over. Thats ok except for the fact that he didn't bother cleaning the surface before hand. So I'm currently removing his shoddy work to do it right. So I'm sanding/using a die grinder with a abrasive pad. Anyway, I'm doing everything I'm supposed to, as in using approved eye protection for the task I'm doing, and the damn thing throws a "small" chunk of rusty metal into my left eye, & I don't mean slowly. This thing hit hard. Damn it, I hate crap like that. Wtf did I buy those glasses for if they don't stop everything. If had been stupid, I could understand, but when I'm doing stuff correctly, crap like that should not happen.... grrrrrrrrrr. Getting that chuck out of my eye was such a blast too....      OK, I'm done venting, I feel better. If only my eye did. Oh well, back to the grind.... {rimshot} Where the hell is my face shield. rrrrrrrr

Happened to me working on my buddies '73
safety goggles but no face shield

I blew it off but later the piece rusted in my eye and when I finally went to the
doctor 10 hours later he had a fun time scrapping out my eye ball with a needle
and some funky fluid that cleans and kills the pain at the same time

OUCH I can understand your pain and situation. I had a very serious eye injury myself, and was off work for 4.5 months. Not fun

I used to only use the safety glasses until the counterman at the autobody supply shop told me about a local kid who was using a 3-M Green Corps wheel that exploded on him. It ended up cutting a vein in his neck and killing him. I now use a face shield and I make sure that it's all the way down so that it covers my neck. Also, it's not a bad idea to wear a hat to keep the sparks from getting up there!

Steve: That sounds like a story that the owner of the resto shop my buddy works at told me. He was telling about me when he was younger & still living in austrailia. I'm not sure on every single detail of the story, but i had asked him why he was building such a heavy duty shroud. Anyway, I can get to the part I do remember perfectly. He was at a shop one day & a motors fan came off and one of the blades caught someone one right in the top of the head killing them. Weird stuff can happen you can never really be too safe.
