painting a new engine

Should have my 360 together this w/e, running aluminum intake and chrome valve covers but will paint the block/heads and front cover. Was told to spray them with urethane primer first, then regular engine enamel. I dont know if the urethane primer is OK for heat, whats the best way to keep the paint from peeling?

Theres a lot of varied opinions on painting an engine etc.

Some say no primer and some say epoxy primer first before epoxy paint. If I considered primering any type of primer first, I would use an etching primer. Or a high temp primer. But I would put it on sparingly. Then after, 2 coats of paint. But neither one very thick per coat. When you put too much paint on, it has a tendency of peeling eventually.

Alot of people have said that the POR engine paint has worked sucessfully.

Ya know those Mopar rattle can paints? Put that on thick and I guarantee it will peel off in places if put too thick.

thanks........that sounded very good. I have decided to use a very light coat of rattle can etching primer followed by 2 light coats of Mopar blue rattle can. Again, I am not painting much of the motor, but I know that front cover is very likely to peel if everything is not sqeaky clean and the paint is not put on too heavy.......

I degunked and cleaned, and used MOPAR spary, it never pealed, or lost color the entire time

it got dirty, dusty, greay even, but the paint was good

that was a 383
