Rear Sway Bar Questions
« on: October 11, 2007 - 01:13:27 PM »
Three of 'em.

First, I read a thread hear about reinforcing the frame rails where the sway bar mounts.  It sounded like the advice was to weld in some hollow steel tube where the mounting bolts would pass through.  It sounds like this advice is meant to keep the frame rails from collapsing when the bolts are tightened, but wouldn't this still allow the action of the bar to tear the metal at the frame rails?

Two, am I better off just getting an aftermarket rear setup and selling the stock setup?

Three, does anybody sell the bushings that go between the mounts and the bar?

That was one of the suggestions, I ended up just drilling through the frame and using some bolts with locking nuts, and I will use lock-tite when I finally install it, but it would be better to weld in tubing.

This depends on if you want the stock appearance or not.  The after market ones are definitely heavier, but will put more stress on your frame rails. Firm Feel sells a nice unit, in fact the axle plates even look like the originals.

I know Year One sells the factory style pins and bushings.

THanks for the info.  Anybody know about the bushings? The ones I have are pretty dry-rotted.
