I'm curious about one statement:

“If they’re driving a vehicle that resembles a ’34 coupe, they don’t want the stigma of all the paperwork that says it’s a 2007 or a 2006 vehicle,” said Jimmy Taylor of Lumberton.

The "stigma of paperwork that says it's a 2007 or 2006 vehicle"? Gimme a break. Is anybody here afflicted with the stigma of undesirable paperwork?

I think you hit the nail on the head, PG, it's a matter of taxes.  He denies that (or somebody else does) elsewhere in the article, but I think that's exactly what's it's about.
