Spacers on a single plane intake

Whats the pros and cons on spacers on a open single plane intake ?

Seems like I just hear about using them on a dual plane intake to increase rpms.

I am using a holley non egr street dominator intake on a SB and its fairly low, I have some room for a 1/2" maybe a 1" spacer. What is the thinking about what happens. Seems to me by raising the carb, it slow the flow down. That be no good right ? I believe 4 hole spacers are to help the low end but it seems fine. I am thinking of an open spacer.

The one nice goodie about a spacer is it's a plus at preventing vapor lock since you raise the carb off the hot intake.  :thumbsup:

I would stay with an open spacer. I have the same intake on my big-block. It didn't run as well with the 4-hole spacer(I experimented  :misbehaving: ).

an open spacer will increase the plenum volume which will generally help with mid to high rpm power , why not try it

In my opinion, generally only a benefit in high rpm engines, but many times they can hurt perfromance as well as improve it. Just got to experiment. I did however machine my single plane down a bit to use a spacer to keep the carb cool, while still having enough hood clearance.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

The SD is a relatively small plenum intake which is great for hood clearance so adding plenum on the SD should help but not always

Seems like in your case it could help. Will keep carb cooler, and will increase plenum volume to provide more top end power. Raising the carb should increase flow I would think, and make the flow more laminar (thus the power increase at high rpm). All depends at what rpm we want to make power.
