s/b alt brackets
« on: October 20, 2007 - 11:35:47 PM »
I need some for my 72 Cuda s/b with PS but no AC. This was a basket case and I have found this triangle with 2 holes that match up on the top of the water pump that may be the top bracket. Its offset about an inch and has a nut welded on the inside of that hole for the long bolt. Is this the right piece for my car and alternator? I DO NOT have the bolt or spacers but they s/b available locally at the hardware, but I have no bottom adjusting bracket. COuld I get one at the junk yard of a later V8 new yorker etc? Is it offset like the top bracket or is it flat?

Thanks, George

The attached pics are from Ebay and they claim they will fit all s/b mopars. What does it look like to you? I may be able to use that triangle I have with the nut, it appears to be the exact same shape as this chrome one with the exception of the nut welded on . I could just cut that off easily. I do not have the bottom slot rod, did pick up one off a slant six but it is straight, it appears the V8 one is rounded and off set, similar to the top bracket. COMENTS, SUGGESTIONS, HELP!!!!!

George,

All I can tell you is that isn't from a big-block. I just hope it's from a Mopar.  :grinyes:

The brackets advertised on Ebay are for a s/b mopar, but I am told that 1970 and later used something just alittle different. THey mentioned the water pump was different, maybe thats why I keep hearing about guys having to shim their pulleys, they have mis matched brackets and pulleys? I dont know if the pulley I ha using is from a 70 and up or not, so I am kind of stuck. Got the $20 ones from the Ebay store or pay Mopars by Crane $40, and then I may still have to shim.

Bouchillon Performance tells me that I need both pulleys in addition to these 70 and later non ac Alternator brackets he sells and on top of that, a single groove alternator. HELP, is there a way to use what I have, shimming perhaps?
