challenger 4 speed.....
« on: November 23, 2007 - 01:52:44 PM »
Could anyone out there tell me how to take apart my 4 speed shifter? I have never done it and don't want to wreck it. Do they make a rebuild kit for it? I have the bottom chrome piece off and the side plate, but I am not sure how to get the 3 "arms" out. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking at doing this in the winter too.  I think there is a pressed in tube that has to be removed to get the shift levers out.  I'm not aware of replacement parts being available but perhaps someone knows better.  I was just going to clean and grease the plates.

Hurst used to sell parts , but since they were bought by mr gasket it is tough to get much for them
you do need to remove the 3/8 nut from the cross pin at the top of the shifter & remove the plate it holds on & slide the tube out of the upper pivot then just clean & grease all the parts

Usually it is not hard to remove , try a tapered punch from the outer face to see if it releases that way
