Ever been on the fence about going to swap meets?
« on: November 09, 2007 - 08:36:39 PM »
The past few times i needed parts i wanted to go to Los Angeles for the big Mopar swaps. Then i think about the 150 bucks in diesel(have to take the truck for parts)for the 4-5 plus hour drive each way.WHile i would like to go to fall fling tomarrow its much easier to just buy off ebay or other sources.I dont really care to drive all that way to drool over cars so its just a mission to get parts.ANyone else go thru this?I also have tons of projects with all my animals and property every weekend, its hard to burn a day or 2 going.

I know exactly what your saying, with the internet/ebay, it's much easier to buy online.  I only do local shows now.

Shame. I gotta work tomorrow and sunday. To bad because I get my diesel for free. I could haul it for you easy enough. But I'm in Lompoc this weekend

Personally I go for fun as well as getting parts. I have good luck both on the internet as well as the swap meet, but if I had the choice I would go to the swap meet regardless of the distance. But that's just me.

I'm grinding on a kiln at a plant named celite corp. Then I have to go out to Trona , ca to a soda ash plant and grind some more. Fly home from Bakersfield next sunday for Thanksgiving then up around to Oakland ca for a week or so, then take the rest of the year off

4-5 hrs is a too long for me to drive for a one day swap but very doable for a weekend. My bud and I routinely drive 2-2 1/2 hrs for some local meets whether we need to buy stuff or not,it`s always fun seeing the junk for sale and meeting and hanging out with our car guy freinds.

moparnut I live in LA area and the Pomona swapmeet is very close to my place (about 15 miles) so is not a long drive for me, I like to see the cars and the crazy prices that the sellers ask for :screwy:, but about finding Mopar parts it is a waste of time..the only place that I find them is only on Ebay but some of the shipping cost are almost the same as the price of the part :banghead:..I was looking for a set of valve covers for small block (340 ) and the shipping is around $20.

The only other place is a big Mopar show on Van Nuys on the beginning of the year and the one on November..the show was today :2thumbs: ( you can find a lot of pics of the cars and the parts on my post of few minutes ago)..here are some of them of the parts for sell  (I found a great set of valve covers for $15 and no shipping cost

I was there
Saw your space too.
I did score a pretty nice Cuda Rally hood for 250 with scoops. So it was a good day, other than I'm pooped from 9 hours of driving.I was going to buy one of Epay but am paranoid it would arrive with the corners smashed up.How'd you like Gay Leno's silver bullet? It was cool. The other gray haired guy with him must of been his body guard.

Sounds like it might be worth renting a sub compact if you were going there just to browse of pick up some small stuff.

Actually I forgot how much i like that show,TONS AND TONS of parts with plenty if deals if you look. The guy i bought the hood from bought a 70 cuda grill all there from another seller for 250 bucks.Wish i would have found that deal.
I will probably go to Spring fling there next april. But since i dont need anymore pick up sized parts,I'll take my Magnum, which gets twice the mileage of my diesel truck and 10 times more comfortable.I can get tons of smaller stuff in it especially by folding the rear seat back.I'm sure i could even get fenders in there but a hood was just too big.

Ya I know.It will be much easier for me to go the night before.Dont want to stay 2 days,1 is enuf. Then i can look at leasure instead of rushing on a mission to get the part i was there for.I am sure i probably missed alot of stuff having to drive up and back in the same day.
