360 Crate Engines for my Challenger - Question

Hi,

I am in the market now to purchase an engine for my 73 Chally I am building.  Here is my resto thread if anyone is interested: http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=40331.0

I want a short block and ideally a 360 with a stroker kit but the 408 new is just out of my budget right now.  So I thought I would go with a 360 crate and later I can install a kit if I want.  I also like the fact that the engines have a 12 month warranty.

I contacted my dealer that gives me discounts on Mopar performance products.  However, he told me in Canada, there is no warranty on these engines, only 90 days on parts.

Do the crates in the US come with a 12 month warranty?

Anybody have any other suggestions on where I could buy a crate 360 with/without a stroker kit or just good places in general to buy an engine?

I wuz lookin' at Blueprint engines.  408 stroker with Eddy heads.  420 H.P.  There is a warranty if installed professionally. They offer some other engines without all the bling.

I have no idea about this place other than I did a Google search for "Mopar crate 360" and they came up.

I called them an the deal is.... this guy says a 90 day from Chrysler is what they offer for warranty and there is a 1.5 year waiting list for these crate engines because 360s are no longer being produced.  He said the last batches of 360s were made in Mexico and they are using used cores, not new blocks to make these crate engines and Chrysler is scrounging around to find used cores. 

Sooooo if you have a 360 now, it might go by the way of the 340 someday interms of how rare they will be...     Joking, but even this guy I talked to agreed to what I said. 

Might be time to think about that 5.7 liter Hemi engine.....

A used 360LA or 360 Magnum shouldn't be hard to find at a wreckers.  There was one for sale in Alberta as advertised on the northern mopars web site http://www.mopars.org/classified/sale-parts.html

I think you would be better off buying a bare 360 block, which you should be able to find anywhere, and rebuilding with all new parts.  It would probably about the same price, but you will know exactly what's in it.  If you buy a crate motor you would need to tear it down anyways, because of the shoddy QC on them.
