A FEW QUESTIONS...A little help...?
« on: November 26, 2007 - 09:03:20 AM »
I need to put my Barracuda on jack stands, is it OK to place the rear stands under each side of the axle? I need to do some work on the rails.
Without replacing rails, because most of the rears are good (just about a 3 inch section) do the rail caps work well for re-strengthening the rail?
If so, should I POR15 the rail first or after welding a cap on? It would make sense to POR15 before so the rust doesnt creep onto the new cap...
Also how does one address some rust within cavities like door panels, trunk lid or in between metal seams that make getting to very difficult? Is it best just to spray something like POR15 on/in there?

Thanks
Richard

It would depend on where you need to repair. Iwould remove the rear axle for better access to the work area. After you get it all cut away and cleaned go with Rust Bullit or POR-15.
The same for hidden areas like door bottoms, lower quarters etc.
I don't like either on exterior panels that will get final finish work though.

Sounds like good advice to me.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development
